3 out of 5 stars Emerson CK59051 Alarm Clock/Radio   July 29, 2010
JPH (Yukon, OK USA)
This item is good as an alarm clock, with the dual alarm feature, the large bright numerals. and the chime sounds for "buzzer". Without individual hour-minute set, it takes a little longer to scroll to your desired time. The radio, however, is indistinct, very poor sound quality. In addition, it is extremely hard to set to a given station frequency reading which shows up on the LED readout. The radio does provide a loud source of noise for wake up alarm.

3 out of 5 stars Weak reception   July 26, 2010
Fred Gefken (Eastern Shore VA)
Radio has great features and is easy to see time at night. The radio suffers from weak reception here in a rural area far from a radio station. Other radios in the house do not have this problem. My hand has an antennae effect while tuning a station. as soon as the hand is removed, the tuning fuzzes out. This makes tuning a hit and miss stuation.

4 out of 5 stars Review after one week of use   July 17, 2010

I wanted to leave a quick note after having used this alarm clock for a week.

Some Pros:

Large display

Multiple Alarms

Large snooze button

Some Cons:

SmartSet doesn't seem to work accurately

Poor sound quality for listening to the radio

Seems like many features have non-intuitive multiple keypresses. I keep the manual under my clock just in case in the future I need to do something that can't be done intuitively.

The clock is 22 seconds off of true time (my watch that automatically sets itself to the U.S. Government's time signal). Every other device I have with the auto-set feature takes 1-3 minutes to acquire the signal and set the time. This radio takes about 15 seconds so I don't think it sets itself by the government's time signal but rather from the factory setting of "close enough" when the battery was put in. I don't use the override to make the clock run faster or slower than the true time.

The sound quality is very AM-radio like for FM stations. It seems the design was geared toward a speaker good enough for alarm beeps rather than good frequency range for FM radio listening. I don't use my alarm clock for the radio part because the lack of frequency range bugs me.

Alarm isn't very loud even when the volume is cranked up, but it surprising works! I haven't missed an alarm yet in a week I've used this alarm clock so it's obviously loud enough or beep-annoying enough to wake me up.

I haven't had a power outage yet to test the battery backup part of the alarm clock to see how it effective it works at getting me up.

4 out of 5 stars Good Alarm Clock Radio   July 6, 2010
B. Baldwin (San Diego, CA USA)
Things I like about this radio:
Nice big easy to read display.
Very easy to set the time. Once you have your timezone set, if power goes away and the comes back it automatically sets itself to the correct time.
Two alarms.

Things I don't like:
Sound quality of the radio isn't that great. We had a Sony stereo alarm clock radio before this one and it's sound was significantly better.

Overall, I'm happy with this clock radio and I'm glad we bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Verry pleased   June 25, 2010
Pleased
I was a little skeptical about this product because of the reviews, but after using the alarm clock. I fell in love with it. The light from the clock was not too bright and I enjoyed the presets for the alarm full week, week days or just weekends. Both of us love the softer to louder ring.
